Wiz:  Alright, the combatants are set, it’s time to end this debate once and for all.

Boomstick: IT’S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTTTLLLLEEEEE!

A young boy walks across a grassy meadow, he appears no older than ten, on his wears an aviator cap. His other clothes includes a turtleneck sweater with horizontal stripes with the color green matching the surrounding grass, covering the sweater includes a leather jacket with matching gloves, a backpack with countless merit badges sewn and decorated, and a dark pair of pants with dress shoes of the same hue. He is Raz, the Psychonaut in training.

He wanders throughout the meadow that’s beyond the camp’s borders, for he heard rumors around the camp that there’s another psychic that doesn’t involve brain powered tanks. Curious to see if it’s true, the young boy sneaked away from the camp without counselors’ knowledge. He made sure that they won’t read his mind before departing. Suddenly, he felt a powerful psychic presence and stop dead in his tracks.

Raz turned around to find the location of where it’s coming from, and to his luck, he didn’t find it too long. There was another boy, this time, around thirteen. His black hair contrasts with the red baseball cap with the blue brim. The boy appears chubbier than his counterpart, with lighter colored clothes to contrast Raz’s darker attires: a blue and yellow horizontal striped t-shirt, a pair of blue jean shorts, and red sneakers touching the grass. He is Ness, the boy from Onett.

“So, the rumors are true,” Raz spoke, “I take it you’re not a new camper here?”

Ness simply shook his head, and replied “No, believe it or not, I got lost from my friends and need to get back to them as soon as I can. Gotta save the world from eternal evil and all that.”

“No kidding?” asked Raz, “I just stopped my camp counselor from world domination and ended his daddy issues.”

“Cool,”

“Well, not as cool as this!” He said before summoning the Levitation ball between his feet. “Well then, how about a friendly spar? I like to see your psychic powers as well”

Ness thought for a few seconds and then smiled. “OKAY!”

Fight!

Raz begins charging towards Ness at high speed, hoping to run him over but Ness sidestepped in time to call:

“PSI ROCKIN’ ALPHA!”

Suddenly, a wave of psychokinetic energy erupts from Ness’ location and comings towards Raz, who saw the upcoming danger and bounced high in the air with the Levitation ball. He then converted the ball into a handheld parachute as he glided down to safety. At a safe height, the Psychonaut in training landed on the ground with a finesse touch.

“Man, I should’ve brought that strip of bacon,” He muttered to himself. “I never saw that type of power before.”

Ness held his ground, and waiting for his opponent’s next attack, the thoughts of his friends and family means that he need to end the fight soon as he can.

“That’s a nice attack you got there,” Raz complimented, “but I got an attack that’s even better!”

He fires several Psi Blasts at Ness, who realized there are too many beams and too fast for him to dodge, but as the beams of psychic energy aims towards the chosen boy of Onett, Ness yelled “PSI SHIELD BETA!”

A field of psychic energy surrounded Ness, as the psychic shield surrounds Ness, the Psi Blasts made contact. The beams’ impact pushed Ness’ body across the soil but managed to maintain his ground, and then, the beams of reflected back towards to sender who barely had enough time to yell “HOLY CRAP!”

Raz ducked in time and formed a Shield of his own as he covers himself in an orange sphere of psychic energy around him. The incoming beams was then absorbed harmlessly into the shield.

Realizing that long range won’t go anywhere, Raz then summons another Levitation ball to charge at him again. But only this time, he leapt across the battlefield, and double jumped with the Levitation Ball as the foundation. Although Ness doesn’t know what his opponent’s going to do next, he expected the worse as young acrobat dives down below like an artillery shell.  Ness pulled out his Gutsy Bat, hoping to hit a homerun, but then wondered if his opponent’s palms are always gigantic and orange.

WHAM!

The Palm Bomb slammed Ness to the ground with countless poundings from Raz’s palm strikes, a cloud of dust then erupts from the impact as a crater formed where Ness stood still. Raz rose up from the ground and prepared himself for a counterattack. As the dust finally cleared, the camper saw his opponent lying down in the ground, motionless.  He then creeps up towards Ness, wondering if he’s playing possum, and sure enough, he is.

Ness ambushed him by swinging his Gutsy Bat at Raz’s head, but the latter back flipped away in time from an upcoming concussion.

“I didn’t come this far just to have my head whacked like a piñata!” He yelled and projects an orange fist with his mind. The Psychonaut swung his psychic fists at Ness who in turn, blocks the psychic punches away with his bat. Both boys gripped their melee attack to one another, hoping to push the other one to the ground.

That is until Ness pulled out his Yo-Yo and hits Raz in the chest, knocking the wind out of him. He then puts away with his Yo-yo and then charges forward with his bat, but as the Chosen Boy drew closer, Raz struck him with a Confusion Grenade.

The green projectile hits Ness and was struck with a green cloud of psychic energy. While being dazed and distracted, he swung wildly in the air as if he was battling a bunch of ghosts. Raz decides to hightail and recover while he can but not before punching Ness for good measure, with the orange fist contacting Ness’s face, with blood spilling out of his nose and staining his shirt red.

Raz turned Invisible before retreating back to the woods, when he reached his destination, the Psychonaut finds a tree that makes a great lookout spot, and begins climbing. When he reached the tree’s branches, Raz then waited, waiting for an upcoming counterattack. He kept his mind clear, lest Ness is also a mindreader.

Meanwhile, Ness continues to fight his non-existent targets that attack left him feeling strange after all. Wait, “feeling strange” he begins hoping his powers would work and can concentrate enough to cast:

“PSI HEALING BETA!”

The healing cleared Ness’ head from any confusion and begins to clear his mind. Ness notices the footprints on the ground, assuming it was his opponent, and follows them to the woods. But as he entered the forest, Ness felt alone, and lost. He starts to miss his friends and family wanted to end this fight as soon as he can, Ness thought of his mother, his sister Tracy, his pet dog King, his favorite steak dinner where he can almost taste in his mouth, and his dad whom rarely sees in person.

Then, he felt warm, hot even…it’s almost if he’s about to burst into flames!

Ness begins to panic and search for the source of his opponent, he then tries to use telepathy to read Raz’s mind but if only if he paid more attention at Paula’s lessons than paying attention to Paula herself.  He needed to find where the attack is coming from before he gets cooked well-done like his favorite food.

Suddenly, Ness heard a twig snap, and turned his head to the source of the sound before yelling: “PK FLASH ALPHA!”

A strong flash of light struck Raz and ruined his concentration on Pyrokinesis as he nearly fell out of the tree branches. He felt a state of confusion and felt numbness in his arm. The confusion’s not as strong as the Brain Tank he battled before when he entered Agent Nein’s Brain Tumbler but he still needed to retreat the best as he can as he slid down the trunk like a rail on a flight of stairs.

Meanwhile, Ness heals himself by casting Healing Alpha. His burns and injuries suddenly going away from his body, and felt good as new. Still, he needs to conserve his PP or else he’ll be in danger before pursuing Raz.

Speaking of Raz, he felt the effects going away as his healing him away, he starts to feel better but only wishes it was quicker.

“I should’ve brought that Dream Fluff with me, or roasted that squirrel while I had a chance,” he muttered to himself while running.

Raz turns around and sees Ness coming after him, curious, the Psychonaut casts Clairvoyance, and sees himself wearing some kind of a silver, robotic hazmat suit for some reason. The said hazmat suit had an inverted triangle and three rectangles on the suit’s left for some odd reason.

“Weird…” Raz simply replied before using a Levitation Ball to bounce himself in the air to land one of the jungle tree’s vines (for some reason is in the middle of a North American forest) and swings like a certain legendary Ape Man…the almighty Sasquatch!

Raz swings around and slides across the trees’ branches while taking potshots at Ness with Psi Blasts and throwing pine cones and rocks with Telekinesis. One of them managed to nail him right in the chest, knocking him out of his ass. Ness rolled outta way and ran to a nearby boulder for cover.  He looks away and tries to cast Hypnosis at Raz who’s standing at the tree, but misses completely as the circus boy jumped away from one branch to the next.  The Chosen Boy begins to grow frustrated at Raz, running and swinging around like a monkey whom Ness swears he hears hooting and chattering.

Ness looked up and saw Raz diving towards him with a Palm Bomb but this time, he won’t let him as he yelled “PARALYSIS ALPHA!”

Raz then felt his limbs going numb, as if they all turned to jelly, he then can only watch as Ness winds up his bat and at the right moment, hits him like a baseball.

SMAAASH!!

Raz’s legs are struck and shattered as he crash landed into the earth away from Ness. He felt the Earth scratching up his whole front body, scraping away his face and chest. Through all of this, all what Raz can do was to scream in agony. Despite of this, the acrobat was able mustered up the last of his strength to lift himself up and felt his face scratched up before looking at Ness with his Bat at hand.

Ness doesn’t have the PP left but enough to cast:

“PSI ROCKIN GAMMA!”

A wave of psychokinetic energy, even bigger than what the Psychonaut saw in the beginning of the fight was coming towards him. Raz, has this to say:

“Well, this is gonna suck…”

Raz flew away from Ness as if he was sucked up by a tornado, the psychic attack felt a million Psi Blasts hitting him at the same time. The psychic bombardment was too much for the Psychonaut to handle. Then, by the time he landed on something, he felt a sharp pain going through his back and out of his stomach, followed by the taste of his own blood. The pain, he looked down and saw a tree branch sticking out in front of him covered in his own blood.

Raz’s life is flashing before his eyes, just like what they say in TV he thought. From his days at the circus, to the time when he entered camp and his journey. With the last ounce of his strength, he contacted his family, his friends, his counselor, and to Lilli.

“Dad, Sasha, Millia, Ford, and Lilli…I’m sorry…”

He is going to miss everyone, and even to the camp bully Bobby, Raz’s head dropped and closes his eyes before breathing his last breath.

Ness ran up to him only to find him dead, he felt horrible on what he just did, it was supposed to be a spar after all. All what Ness can do was to collapse onto his knees, in both out of exhaustion and out of guilt. To atone on what he did, he then buries Raz on where he fell in battle, with his aviator cap serving as a grave marker. He removed his cap and quietly saluted to his fallen opponent.

KO!

Boomstick: Wow, we felt like dicks…our bad…

Wiz: Indeed, while they are both psychic, their similarities end here. Just like our battle between Thor and Raiden, the battle was one-sided from the start as the latter uses too heavily on electric powers just like how Raz relies too heavily on psychic powers.

Boomstick: Like Thor, Ness has a weapon to beat the shit out of his opponents besides his powers! And before the angry Psychonaut fans go, “But why didn’t Raz didn’t bring the Psycho-Portal to battle?” Well, if you really are a fan, the Psycho-Portal has a built-in block that prevents users entering underage minds. Think of the mechanism as a bouncer in a titty bar.

Wiz: Even if Raz can enter Ness’ mind, it would be impossible since Ness conquered his inner demons. And if we nerfed down Ness, the same would go to Raz.

Boomstick: Raz maybe faster, but Ness fought fast opponents as well, like when he fought and defeated the twin Sanctuary Guardians Thunder and Storm and his healing powers is better than Raz’s slow regeneration.

Wiz: While it’s true that Raz earned all his powers and saved a world in a day, it’s what his experience was, a single day.

Boomstick: While Ness had weeks, even months of experience during his quest to stop Giygas the ultimate evil from eternal darkness and making kids’ crapping their pants in terror.

Wiz: Perhaps, if Psychonauts became a series, we could have added more but that may only exist in an alternate universe somehow.

Boomstick: Raz gave it all, but it still ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ain’t enough.

Wiz: The winner is Ness

Ness
+ Can take more damage and hit harder
+ Better healing powers
+ More experience in fighting
+ Psychic powers aren’t as circumstantial compared to Raz’s
+ Better weapons

Raz
+ Agile and acrobatic
+ Uses the environment
+ Regeneration gives him an edge
-Inferior to Ness’ healing powers
-Lack of experience compared to Ness
-Relies too heavily on psychic powers
Sorry, about the LONG ass wait but here's the fight that I promised!

In the next battle, which would you like to see?

Blanka from Street Fighter Vs Cole from InFamous

Or.

Revy from Black Lagoon Vs. Agent Tanya Adam from Red Alert

Ness (c) belongs to Nintendo

Razputin (c) belongs to Double Fine

...Yeah, bit of a grim ending, I must say. I have a suggestion on a difference in ending, though: How about instead of impalement by tree branch, he lands in a lake. A non-bloody end, that still plays off a rather notable weakness of Raz.
